Google's Nexus 7 Tablet Is Shipping Again

Google's Nexus 7 Tablet Is Shipping Again

Source: forbes.com:

Within its first week on sale, one version of Google’s first tablet offering, Nexus 7 by Asus, apparently sold out, causing the company to halt all orders for the device. It would appear the product is back in stock and orders are being taken.

The company ran out of its 16GB version of the Nexus 7, and the tablet was not available for order at such retailers as Gamestop, Kmart, Sam’s Club, Office Depot (NYSE: ODP), Staples (NASDAQ: SPLS), B&H, and Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) in Canada, as reported by Mashable. According to a recent report, the device is for sale now via the Google Play store. Retailers that are still sold out of the device include Radio Shack, Adorama, and Sam’s Club, according to the report.

It was reported that Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) did not foresee that the more expensive 16GB Nexus 7 ($249) would be more popular than its 8GB device ($199). Apparently, consumers were more interested in storing information on their devices than in a cloud storage service.

In his review of the Nexus 7, SKRBBLR editor, Kane Fulton, said that after the installation of the operating system, the 8GB Nexus is left with only 6GB of storage space. If an extra $50 can give a consumer another 8GB of storage, it makes sense to make the extra investment.

Forbes contributor, Robert Hof noted that selling out a product can sometimes be a marketing ploy to attract attention to a product. Google has not disclosed any actual Nexus 7 sales figures as of yet.
